This is much more valuable than taking the premiums as a medical expense on Schedule A.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>The deduction <strong>reduces your taxable income dollar by dollar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t need your medical expenses to be more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income to get this benefit.<\/p>\n<p>You can get this write-off even if you take the standard deduction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It gets better<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New for 2010, you can deduct the amount of health insurance premiums before you calculate your self-employment tax.  That&#8217;s huge!
