So you&#8217;ll pardon my skepticism concerning the tweet I just saw that promised free credit card processing on mobile phones.<\/p>\n<p>I clicked the link that was provided to get the details and here&#8217;s what I found.<\/p>\n<p>The offer (Go Payments Goes FREE) was from Intuit&#8217;s mobile credit card processing division <em>Go Payments <\/em>and promised <strong>no service fees<\/strong> along with a<strong> free card reader<\/strong>.\u00a0 Sounds good, right?<\/p>\n<p>I read the company&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/about.intuit.com\/about_intuit\/press_room\/press_release\/articles\/2011\/SmallBusinessesFreeCreditCardReader.html\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> touting its desire to help small businesses in 2011 and kept my eyes peeled for the fine print.\u00a0 First, small business owners <strong>must apply before mid February<\/strong>.\u00a0 Second, the card reader is only available <strong>while supplies last<\/strong>, whatever and however long that means.\u00a0 Third, the &#8220;no service fee&#8221; option is listed as being available only to businesses with <strong>low or intermittent<\/strong> credit card processing volume.<\/p>\n<p>Those terms weren&#8217;t defined, but\u00a0I&#8217;m thinking my business will probably qualify.<\/p>\n<p>The last <strong><em>gotcha<\/em><\/strong> was that\u00a0 a business\u00a0 <strong>must be a new Intuit Merchant Service customer and approved for an Intuit merchant account<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Hmm.
